Question: Do Ascendo Dictionaries for Android require an internet connection?
Answer: The data in the dictionary, phrasebook and verb conjugator is stored on the device and does not require an internet connection. Audio pronunciation uses text-to-speech engines available by default on most devices. Translation is the only feature to require an internet connection.

Question: Translation isn't working. What could be the problem?
Answer: Translating phrases (Translation tab) requires access to the internet. To connect to the internet, go to Android Settings > Wireless & Networks. More information is available at Android Support in the sections on Connecting to Wi-Fi and Connecting to Mobile Networks.

Question: Why don't I hear anything when I tap on the speaker icon?
Answer: It could be that the Media Volume is set too low. You can adjust this in Android Settings > Sounds > Volumes.

Question: Pronunciation doesn't sound right for one language. What could be the problem?
Answer: Ascendo dictionaries use text-to-speech (TTS) for audio pronunciation. Some devices may require that you install TTS files for additional languages. Depending on your device, you may be able to install these files from Android Settings > Language & input > Text-to-speech output. Other TTS engines are available on Google Play.
Some device manufacturers, such Samsung, pre-install more than one TTS engine. Selecting an alternative TTS engine from Android Settings > Language & input > Text-to-speech output may greatly improve the quality of the audio pronunciation.

Question: How do I type characters with accents such as ñ, é or ü?
Answer: To type accented characters, tap and hold the letter you want to add an accent to. A menu will pop up displaying the letter with a variety of accents. Slide your finger to your choice and let go. The accented character will be inserted into the word you are typing.

Question: How do I choose the language in which I want to lookup a word?
Answer: You don't need to choose a language because Ascendo Dictionaries use a single, searchable list for both languages. Simply start typing and a list of matching entries will appear with flag icons to indicate the language.

Question: Can I look up words faster than by scrolling down the list?
Answer: At the top of the screen is a search bar. Start typing a word and you will skip ahead to the dictionary entry that most closely matches the letters you have typed.

Question: What options are available to translate phrases?
Answer: Ascendo Dictionaries use a paid service offered by Google to deliver translations in a convenient, seamless way. After you have used the initial credits, we charge a modest fee to cover ongoing costs. Free, browser-based options are available in Settings > Translate Using.

Question: How do I slow down audio pronunciation?
Answer: To slow down audio pronunciation, go to Android Settings > Language & input >Text-to-speech output > Speech rate, then select the speed you prefer.

Question: Can I test new versions before they are released and give feedback?
Answer: Yes, we'd love that! Simply sign up for our beta testing community and we will let you know when new versions are available.

Question: Some dictionaries entries are verb forms. How do I see the root verb and conjugation?
Answer: Tap on the text indicating the entry is a verb form. A menu will appear with options to Translate, Conjugate, or Pronounce. Tapping on Translate will take you to the root form in the dictionary. Tapping on Conjugate will take you to the full conjugation of the verb.

Question: I bought the paid version but I am still seeing ads. What should I do?
Answer: There is a freemium version and paid version for each dictionary. The free version had a square icon and the paid version has a round icon. Check that you are using the paid version. If you subscribe to Premium Features on the freemium version, see the how to active the subscription below.

Question: How do I activate my subscription to Premium Features on a device?
Answer: To activate Premium Features on a device, tap on the menu icon > Premium Features > scroll to bottom and tap "I'm already subscribed", then enter your email address and tap Next. You will receive an email containing PIN code. Enter the PIN code on the device to activate Premium Features.
